THE PROJECT / RESEARCH NOTES
How the map was assembled
The markers represent recorded Rangers matches by city. A marker locates the city; it does not promise that the precise historic ground is known.
Match records
The main match ledger is based on The Rangers Archives. We retain the original record links in the project data. The first recorded match against Callander in May 1872 was added separately from the club history, because the match ledger begins in 1873. We show its documented month without inventing a day.
Locations and uncertainty
City coordinates are mapped from named grounds, places and opponent cities. Where the city can be identified but the exact ground cannot, the result stays on the map with an “Unverified stadium” label. There are currently 8,261 mapped ledger records and 0 records without a mapped city. These totals describe this working archive, not a claim that every match in the club’s history has been independently verified.
Two duplicate rows under review
Two imported rows had the same fixture details as an existing record, but their linked page addresses suggested a different date. We kept one fixture in each case and display a note with the result rather than counting the duplicate as another match.
- Celtic, 0–2: retained as 4 January 1892; the duplicate link says 4 January 1891.
- St Mirren, 5–0: retained as 21 April 1894; the duplicate link says 21 May 1894.
The date discrepancy needs a further source check. If the evidence shows either row describes a separate match, we can add it as a separate fixture.
